I recently did a job with our Mc1236 directly under a bridge .

Unusual application of a fusion machine if anyone is interested.

Out of curiosity how much force / pressure is exerted by the carriage arms when it comes down into its closed position.

WOW ! Awesome pictures....
Just curious though, How did you get the machine out that far under the bridge?
To answer you question, system pressure is exerted on to the clamping cylinders, as far as the force, I believe that it depends on length of your jaw stops and the effective area of the piston on that cylinder.

Hay Matt

They used a 'I' beam bolted under the bridge ( red line in pick ) with 2 x 3 ton movable block and tackles to get it up there and move it into position then used a 3 ton cable and ties on each corner of the machine, the scaffolding helped us to move around and stuff.

The 1236 Carriage arm hydraulic cylinder is part no MEB00056 ( 2B X 6S X 1R Hyd Cyl ), while the Upper Jaw ( part 3602402 ) so I guess 20” in the middle and 40” at the end where it comes into position.

I was just wondering to know how much force the jaw/s can exert to expect reaction of the pipe in the jaw.

On the job the pipe seemed to relax into the jaw over time, so I allowed that rather than force the pipe into the machine when it was struggling to squash the pipe into it.

Also the outer jaw would slightly misalign when it came down into its closed position, so I ’encouraged’ it a bit, when the machine was on the ground again and the pipe was put straight in the machine the jaw closing alignment problem went away.
