We got a call from a gentleman who could not get his PC to connect to the Nomad (DL5). He had just upgraded to Windows 7 (or got a new computer with Windows 7).

The Windows Mobile Device Center just would not open after multiple tries.

I learned that some PC’s can experience this issue perhaps due to some operating system setting,. Although it is pretty rare, it can happen on Windows Vista, 7, and 8.

In order to overcome this issue, go to the Nomad, tap Start > Settings > Connections > USB to PC, then uncheck “Enable advanced network functionality.” Tap OK to accept the change and then reset the Nomad.

I would still advice trying to connect without un-checking the feature first because the default setting works on 99.99% of computers.

In some cases, both with this feature checked and unchecked, you might need to manually start the Mobile Device Center. Again, this is rare, but if it happens, we now know what to do.
