Occasionally you may want to (or have to) wipe the handheld and start over. This is useful when people have tinkered with settings and the like. It is fairly easy to do.
Restore Factory Default State: WARNING: All application software, licenses, settings and data will be lost on your unit if you perform this function. Hold down the Power key to display a countdown. Continue to hold down the Power key until it counts down to zero and beeps twice. Then immediately hold down the Start (Windows) and OK keys simultaneously. After a few seconds, a screen will come up warning that if you continue, this operation will clear the persistent store including all user data, applications and settings.
Follow the onscreen instructions, set time and date etc.
Then connect the hand held to your desktop computer using ActiveSync or Windows mobile device center.
Go to and download the correct Trimble/TDS Recon image file. Put this file on your desktop.
If the handheld has Pocket PC written on it, it should be a Recon 4.
If it Says TDS, it should be a Recon 5.
If it says Trimble, it should be a Recon 6.
Move this file into the “My Documents” folder on the hand held.
From the hand held, navigate to the file and run it. This restores the unit to McElroy factory default settings. You will need to pair the Bluetooth on the handheld and the DataLogger unit per the video above.
