I have a small sidewinder machine model #SW00103 on the base.
The Iron is a model #214903. serrated concave / convex faces.

My question is what is the correct installation for the spacer base plate on the iron?
Currently the plate is installed butted up to the iron.
Also the heater guide #SW03401 is installed onto the sidewinder with the two mounting screws in the rear of the plate.

Today my contractor told me that I have both in the wrong position. He says that the spacer plate on the iron should be insalled towards the rear of the two alignment prongs. Also he says the heater guide should be moved rearward to align the iron with the pipe. This would help align the heater to the pipe and prevent the iron from rotating downward in the front during fusion.

After testing this setup, I found that the rear edge of the iron has a small gap (+/- 1/16") at the pipe. We are using 2" pipe. Once I applied pressure on the T with the sidewinder, it mated the surfaces evenly, but I worried that during heat soak with zero pressure it would not heat the pipe evenly.

Can you provde me with a drawing or preferably a picture showing the correct installation and use of both.
I could not find anything in your manual that clarified this.

Thanks in advance

Here are pictures from the assembly drawings, showing how we build them here. Does this answer your question? I'm getting a little lost on the different configurations you're trying because of the terminology.

The heater guide should be installed as per this drawing: http://fusion.mcelroy.com/parts/exec?se ... 301+++++++
Its function is to align the heater center side to side, not to keep it from rotating.
Also see this link for proper assembly.

I hope this helps.

Thanks guys
Thats exactly how our irons are set up.
I just wanted to verify that setup and let the contractor know the correct setup for his machines.
