I just did the next bit of a 24" job for the continuation of a sewer line part which was under a bridge discussed in the a previous thread.
We were in a ditch and had tight space restrictions as the photos show.
What I forgot to check and we had to dig out extra space for, is the space needed for the carriage to move.
This was complicated by the fact the back hoe could not reach any further.
In the ditch we fused a 45 degree bend so the machine was in the configuration needed to do that with the further arm removed and the correct way round.
When we came to do the straight and final fuse, the pipe sticking out the ground ( unmovable ) went into the movable carriage section and we were not about to turn the machine around then.
So dug we did and I jacked up the pressure to 1000psi to get the carriage to close enough ( the undercarriage pressed itself into the ground of the side of the hole ) as it was getting to the point of running out of time.
It was just enough, lesson learnt, leave enough space and then some.
We tried to leave enough space below to use the jacks on the machine but still needed to extract the machine by hooking up only one side and sliding it around the pipe, removing the pins from the hydraulic rams near the opporator to give us some space and up the slope till we could close the machine and connect the lifting bar.
Picture of this excluded as Josh would pass out if he saw that.
